Indian Express protest against Emergency in India 1975

On 26th June 1975, India’s Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency lasting almost 21 months during which elections & fundamental rights were suspended, news & media were severely censored and more than a lakh Indians arrested.

There were many ways in which the imposition of emergency was protested but the most powerful of all was the gesture shown by Indian Express. While most of the newspapers were helpless due to censorship and hence budged, Indian Express protested by leaving the editorial section blank!!

Here is the snapshot of the newspaper which had a blank editorial section:

Till then, well written editorials used to create great impacts. But this was the first time that a blank editorial had created a much greater impact on the masses..
