Back to the topic:
Few weeks ago, social media was flooded with colorful charts prepared by Kejriwal & his team (and shared by AAP supporters) which revealed some “startling” insights into the dark side of our political system: Criminal cases against politicians.
(AAP had used data from Myneta & ADR sites which actually are based on affidavits filed by candidates and hence is regarded authentic)
Charts which showed that in a certain party, 40% of it’s candidates have criminal cases against them, in another party, 17% of it’s candidates have criminal cases against them and so on. Irrespective of the severity of the criminal charges, according to AAP, a crime was a crime and hence it could paint everybody using the same brush and come up with statements like “25% of the XYZ party candidates are criminals!!”.
The message which AAP was trying to put across was loud and clear: “All other parties have candidates with criminal cases and we are the only holy/clean party without any criminal cases”.
A few days later, as AAP candidates began to file their nominations (for Lok Sabha) all over India, Myneta site (the same site which AAP also uses for its analysis) began to upload details of these candidates along with their criminal cases. This is where Karma also began to kick in, because surprisingly, it was found that most of the AAP candidates also had criminal cases. Not just 1 or 2 candidates but more than 40 candidates!! The same party which was making colorful charts discrediting all other parties for fielding candidates with criminal cases (and portraying itself as “holier than thou”) is also now doing the same.
Using myneta site, lets find out the top 5 candidates across India with maximum criminal cases. This is the result: AAP tops the list. 2 out of the top 5 candidates with max criminal cases belong to AAP. And there seems to be a fierce competition among those 2 AAP candidates because one has 382 cases while the other has 380 cases.
The party which has been lecturing others on criminal candidates has itself fielded candidates having 382 criminal cases (it includes cases related to murder as well) which would put even parties like SP to shame.
While it cannot be denied that other parties also have fielded criminal candidates, what surprises me here is the hypocrisy of Kejriwal’s party which started with a clean slate but is turning out to be no different from other parties. In fact, it seems to be much more dangerous because inspite of being just 1 year old, it has already beaten other parties in terms of criminal records by fielding candidates with 380+ criminal cases.
